International music festival "Grimmaer Liederflut"
Grimma - Flood of Songs - 14. bis 16. August 2009
Summer 2002, a great flood destroyed parts of Saxony , and the little town of Grimma near Leipzig was hit
especially badly. Today, the Old Town is not resplendent again but is also the setting for an international
music festival that started three years ago as a responce to the floods. The program in 2009 again: encourages
not only celebration but also contemplation, and the broud spectrum features German chancons, German soul,
German easy listening and German cult comedy, as well as Yiddish, international pop and world music.
The journey to Grimma can be made by traditional means of transport, but thanks to its location on the Mulde
Valley Cycle Path, the town can also be reaches an two wheels. Nearby are tourist attractions like the ruins
of Nimbschen Convent, from which Katharina von Bora, who later became the wife of Martin Luther, fled in 1523.
